COMMITTEES

The SC Food Policy Council recently developed six committees that are focused on different substantive topics of interest within the food system. The goal of having committees is to collectively develop a robust state-level food equity policy platform. 

Branding and Communications

This is a cross-cutting committee that will provide structure and guidance for internal and external communications on behalf of the SC Food Policy Council.

Food Access and

Insecurity

The committee is dedicated to resolving food inequities through assessment, education, and both local and state-level policy recommendations.

Weatherly Thomas, Committee Lead

The committee seeks to improve the coordination among organizations working to advance healthy food access within health care settings as well as to both identify and facilitate the adoption of state-level FiM policy and system changes.

Planning and Transportation

The committee is centered around the intersection of public health with planning and transportation. The committee will  focus on both food access and physical activity.

Racial Equity within

the Food System

This is a cross-cutting committee that will guide how racial equity will be centered within the SC Food Policy Council to ensure a more equitable and healthy food system in SC.

Strengthening Nutrition Assistance Programs

This committee works on nutrition program advocacy and policy change bringing together advocates, users/community members and state administrators.
